This uncommon beauty is one of the unmistakable creations of nature. The Guinan cock of the rock or the Rupicolarupicola is an endemic bird living in South America. The male bird is the most attractive with its Orange plumed body and the half-moon-shaped crest. The tail has a contrasting black-tipped tail. The wings are unique with Orange and white colors. But the female bird is the opposite. Unlike other species, this female bird is less attractive. It is mostly in black, darker shades, or brown or grey. The crest is also smaller than the male bird. But the bill has a yellow tip.

There are some interesting behavioral patterns of these colorful bird species. The male bird is displayed to attract the female birds during the breeding season. But surprisingly, once a female bird selects the male bird and the mating is completed, the male role is over. Then comes the time for the female bird to lay the eggs in a nest under a rocky overhang. Typically, these nests are plastered to the rock with mud or clay. The females lay the eggs in these nests. She lays one or two white eggs: the hatching or the incubating needs about 28 days. The female bird then plays the role of a single mother, who raises the hatchlings all by herself.

The bird community of this species is vast. So, these birds are not in the category of the vulnerable or a species that is extinct. This bird is not a migrant but a terrestrial bird. The Guinan cock of the rock lives mainly on fruits. The male bird, which is very vibrant, adds color to nature. It is one of nature’s most beautiful creations!
